La Tigra National Park in Tegucigalpa, Honduras was originally designated as a national reserve back in the year 1952 before it was officially declared as a national park in the year 1980. This is the first national park of the country.

It has an area of approximately two hundred and thirty-eight square kilometers with an altitude that ranges from one thousand eight hundred up to two thousand one hundred and eighty-five meters. It's the main source of water of the capital of Tegucigalpa.

You will leave early morning from Tegucigalpa, usually from your hotel lobby, to the beautiful La Tigra National Park Sector Jutiapa, passing thru the El Picacho and El Hatillo mounts.

There are scenic landscapes that you can view during the drive so you can enjoy the scenery as you travel along.
The journey takes approximately one hour to reach the park visitors center.

You´ll enjoy walking through the cloud forest and more than 7 kilometers (4 miles) of well-marked trails with different levels of difficulty.  
Sometimes it can be chilly, so bring warm clothes.

Cloud forests are found within the perimeters of the park and here, you can view various species of plants including those of trees, flowers and shrubs. Colorful bromeliads abound in the forest plus towering oaks, pines and ceibo.

Ceibo incidentally, is considered as a sacred tree by the Mayans.

For bird lovers, you can feast your eyes on over two hundred various species of birds, including migratory birds. Quetzals, mockingbirds, hummingbirds and wrens are only some of the colorful birds that you can see here.

One of the best trails to follow here is the La Cascada. It stretches 9.5 kilometers and begins at one entrance of the park and ends at the other. Along this trail, you can see a magnificent waterfall.
