Enjoy a day trip by train to the Lake District and discover the world of Beatrix Potter amidst the breath-taking scenery of the surrounding countryside. The combination of craggy hilltops and glittering lakes have long stirred the imagination of visitors and helped to make it the UK's most popular National Park. There's time to visit two of Beatrix Potter's former properties, explore the medieval village of Hawkshead and take a relaxing and scenic cruise on Lake Windermere before heading back to London. This unescorted rail tour starts at Euston Station. Your train journey to Oxenholme is approximately 2.5 hours, on arrival you will be met by a local guide.

From Oxenholme your minibus tour will head to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's 17th Century farmhouse which retains much of its original character and is crammed with references to her life and stories. Bought in 1905 with proceeds from her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the author used the farmhouse and its surroundings as a source of inspiration for her writing.

Next stop on the tour is the medieval village of Hawkshead, acknowledged by many as the prettiest village in the Lake District. Characterized by its cluster of whitewashed houses and alleyways, the cobbled streets, squares and courtyards of the car-free village center create a magical ambiance.

Next it's time to enjoy the majestic mountain views and beautiful countryside from Tarn Hows, before a scenic cruise on Windermere, the largest lake in England.

The Afternoon finishes with a cream tea at Lindeth Howe Country Hotel, bought by Beatrix Potter for her mother in 1915. The transfer to Oxenholme Station is in good time to catch your 18:30 return train to London.
