Dress warmly and make your own way to the snowmobile center in Luosto. Meet your guide and put on a supplied thermal suit. Then, listen to a safety briefing and instructions on riding your 2-person snowmobile. Once you feel confident, don your helmet and set off behind your guide into the snowy countryside.
Follow a trail through the local forests and revel in the wintertime scenery along the way. Zoom past snow-laden pine trees and frosty fells and take turns to drive or ride pillion as you go. Ride up into the hills passing the sweeping views of Lapland’s fells and cruise through icy fields to a frozen river.
Park your snowmobile and get your first taste of the all-encompassing silence as your guide bores a hole in the ice. Get instructions on what to do, and take hold of your prepared rod, tackle and bait in readiness. Then, simply sit on the ice, drop your line in the water and hope for a bite.
As you wait, find out interesting facts about the area from your guide and the types of fish found in the local rivers and lakes, including species such as perch and rainbow trout. Then, if you’re lucky, feel a tug on a line and pull in a catch!
