After pickup from your hotel, head to Liberia in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle with your local guide. En route to Guanacaste’s capital city, you’ll pass through one of the most picturesque areas of the country. Enjoy the scenery out your window as you drive past Costa Rica’s small villages, cattle ranches and farmlands.

Upon arrival, your guide will show you around Liberia, at one time referred to as La Ciudad Blanca (The White City) because of the white gravel roads and whitewashed adobe homes that once dominated the town. Browse the locally owned gift shops for fascinating wares and get a taste of the area's best coffee to take back home with you.

As you walk around the Plaza Central (Central Plaza) in the city center, admire the colonial architecture such as the adobe white church, Hermita de la Agonia. Your guide will point out the tile-roofed houses of Barrio Condega – built more than 200 years ago – as well as more contemporary buildings. Although Liberia is Guancaste’s largest city, you’ll be charmed by its small-town character.

On the return trip to your hotel, your guide will take you to a local shop in Guardia. Here, choose from a variety of items hand-crafted in the region, including ceramics and local wood in an array of gorgeous colors. Let your guide help you find the perfect souvenir or memento, such as a beautiful photo album made from natural materials.
