Soar over the city of Funchal in Madeira’s famous cable car and make the most of long spanning views and photo opportunities. The cable car ride lasts approximately 15 mins and takes you up to 560 metres above sea level to the town of Monte. Known for its fine properties and pretty gardens, Monte is dominated by a church that will open its doors for you to go inside.

Walk to the toboggan boarding station and see the drivers in their traditional hats and rubber-soled boots. Make the most of some photo opportunities before boarding your very own toboggan and speeding downhill to the town below. Dating back to 1850 and originally designed as a fast way down to the capital city, the toboggans are simple wicker baskets that are mounted on runners. They are steered and controlled by two drivers, make a 2 kilometre descent in approximately 10 minutes and reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.
