Experience a wine tasting, lunch and museum like no other on a day trip to the sensational Moorilla Estate. After an entertaining ferry ride, start by perusing the world-class art collection at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), housed in an architecturally stunning labyrinth below ground. Then enjoy a delicious seasonal lunch, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour and tasting at Moorilla Winery. Don't miss the chance to discover for yourself why the six-acre estate has landed on best of lists since opening in 2011. Board your ferry at the MONA Ferry Terminal in Hobart for the 30-minute ride that takes you up the River Derwent to the Moorilla Estate. The custom-designed ferry makes for a wild ride: a large cow sculpture adorns the front of the boat, sheep-shaped seats can be found near the back, and other whimsical pieces line the interior.

Upon arrival, a museum representative introduces you to the MONA. Owned by David Walsh, a Tasmanian multimillionaire, the museum features art from Walsh’s private collections that includes Egyptian mummies, Greek coins and shocking modern art.

The building itself is an architectural masterpiece. Built underground with only a small entrance visible from the outside, the interior descends three floors below ground with an exhibition space of more than 64,550 square feet (6,000 square meters).

Take the time to explore the labyrinth of galleries at your leisure. Then head to the Moorilla Wine Bar for lunch. From there meander up to Moorilla's Wine Bar where you can watch winemakers at work. Enjoy a charcuterie plate (or a seasonal vegetarian option) and bread baked daily, all matched to a glass of Moorilla's Muse or Praxis wine. Your table is reserved for 1pm and you'll receive VIP service at the table in the most popular venue on site

Follow your leisurely lunch with the winery tour, which starts at 3:30pm. Go behind the scenes on a tour of the vineyard, the second oldest one in Tasmania, to learn about the winemaking process. Then see how Moorilla crafts its boutique cool-climate wines, and try ten different samples during a relaxed and informative tasting with your expert host. Your wine-loving host shares the history of the region and the winery as you sip.

After a memorable day at Moorilla Winery and MONA, catch the 5pm ferry to return to Hobart.
