Swap the hustle and bustle of Mykonos Town for an alternative view of the rugged Aegean island on this full-day safari. Get behind the wheel of an all-terrain vehicle and set off in a convoy along scenic coastal roads. Zoom past postcard-perfect villages, complete with sugar cube houses, and gorgeous, sandy beaches, pausing every now and then to learn about life on Mykonos and hear interesting stories about the island’s history. See sights like the ruined Venetian castle of Gizi and enjoy plenty of stops for photos and relaxing strolls along the coast.Your experience begins with a pickup at your Mykonos hotel (select hotels only) or at the downtown meeting point. Then, on arrival at Mykonos Old Port, swap your transfer vehicle for an all-terrain 4x4. After a full safety briefing, get comfortable in the driving seat, or sit in one of the passenger seats, then set off in a convoy.
With the tour guide leading the way, rumble along the coast and gaze out at the stunning island landscape, passing white-washed villages, golden beaches and the Aegean Sea, sparkling under the Grecian sun.
Make your first stop at Houlakia Beach, known for its unbelievably smooth pebbles, and let the tranquil atmosphere wash over you before continuing to a nearby lighthouse for panoramic views of the island.
Continue past Marathi and Panormos Beach, widely considered one of Mykonos’ best beaches. Then, arrive at Agios Sostis Bay, one of the quietest stretches of coastline on the island.
After pausing to lap up the peace and quiet of this often overlooked spot, head for Ano Mera, stopping in Paleokastro to explore the evocative ruins of the Venetian castle of Gizi. Learn about the site’s history from the guide and see, too, other nearby points of interest, including an old abandoned mine.
Far away from the bustling Mykonos Town, recharge with lunch at a local taverna (own expense). Then, make your way along the south coast, past Kalafatis — popular with water sports enthusiasts — and the undulating Kalo Livadi beach.
Pass through the green oasis of Halara, and then pull up by Agrari Beach. Enjoy a little free time to take a dip in the bright blue sea, relax with a coffee at a local cafe (own expense), or simply sit on the sand and soak up the sun.
Your tour concludes back at Mykonos Old Port in the evening — following one final stop for a souvenir photo (available to purchase after your tour) by the old castle above Mykonos Town — leaving you free to make your own way back to your accommodation or on to your next stop.
