Situated in the heart of Napa Valley, Old Faithful Geyser of California is one of only three geysers in the world with the designation ‘old faithful.’ As you might expect, this one shoots water high up in the air regularly, usually every 30 minutes (though sometimes even more frequently). Bring a picnic or purchase snacks at the gift shop, take in a game of bocce and relax on the grass or at a picnic table as you enjoy the sight and sound of Old Faithful Geyser erupting.

Old Faithful is so regular in its eruptions that a delay in the water spout is something to note. In the weeks before an earthquake, this Napa Valley geyser starts acting strangely, with the usual 30-minute interval — at which it dramatically spits water 60 to 100 feet (18 to 30 meters) in the air — getting longer. Your admission ticket lets you see this geological wonder up close.

The water from the geyser is channeled from an underground river that flows through molten lava deep in the earth. Under pressure from the heat, the super-hot water eventually erupts with an outpouring of steam followed by a spectacular spray of water. If you stay until the sun goes down, you’ll see the geyser lit up against the night sky.

Additionally, the grounds offer a small Geology Museum where you can learn about geysers and how they relate to the earth’s natural behaviors. Visit the circular gardens, with many plants from around the area, and a farm with the famous Tennessee fainting goats, Jacob’s four-horn sheep and a guard llama.
