Get to know the postcard-perfect Czech town of Cesky Krumlov on an overnight trip from Prague. Your trip includes guided walking tours around Cesky Krumlov’s castle and its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town, as well as a visit to the city of Ceske Budejovice. Many of Cesky Krumlov’s day-trippers are gone by the evening, so you’ll have time at leisure to savor this captivating town at its peaceful best. The route from Prague to Cesky Krumlov passes through the Czech Republic’s pretty South Bohemian countryside, via the city of Ceske Budejovice. Commonly known as Budweis, the city takes its unofficial name from the Budvar brewery that brews the popular European Budvar beers.

With your friendly local guide, you’ll see Ceske Budejovice’s Black Tower (Černá věž), which dominates the view from the town’s historic square. The town’s other buildings are sights to behold, as well; you’ll see an intriguing mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture before continuing your journey south.

Arriving into Cesky Krumlov around midday, you’ll be greeted by the sight of charming red-roofed buildings that cluster around the magnificent State Castle of Cesky Krumlov. This huge, beautifully restored castle complex dwarfs the small Krumlov town and comprises an impressive 40 buildings, numerous gardens, courtyards and a moat. Legend has it that the castle was built by Cesky Krumlov’s royals to emulate Prague Castle, with the intention of enhancing their status in the Czech Royal Court.

You’ll take a walking tour around the castle with your guide before moving on to explore Cesky Krumlov’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town. Take a guided walking tour before breaking for a well-deserved, hearty Czech lunch.

Your Cesky Krumlov tour ends at your overnight accommodation -- the four-star Gold hotel, conveniently located close to the River Vltava and the town center. The remainder of your trip is spent at leisure, so you might decide to see further Cesky Krumlov attractions in the late afternoon and evening. Many visitors to the town are day-trippers, so you’ll have the advantage of enjoying this pretty Czech town in peace before you return to Prague the next morning.
