Stroll the streets of the culinary epicenter, Franschhoek.Taste excellent food and superb wine from some of the best estates in South Africa’s culinary capital, Franschhoek translated from Dutch as the “French corner,” due to being settled by the French Huguenots in 1688, this delightful region emanates with the same food and wine driven life-style, but with a uniquely South African twist.

Your foodie adventure begins at the famous gardens of Babylonstoren – a stunning winery and farm with magnificent gardens and beautifully preserved Cape Dutch architecture. Go on a stroll through the heavenly gardens and learn about the fruit, herbs, nuts, spices and vegetables that are grown on the estate and used in the restaurant. Finish off with a tasting of Babylonstoren’s range of delicious wines and a visit to their cheesery and bakery.

After working up an appetite, head over to Moreson – a tranquil paradise located at the end of the aptly named Happy Valley Road, where you will enjoy Neil Jewell’s scrumptious Charcuterie paired with award winning Moreson wines.

Your third stop will take you to historic Grande Provence Estate. Breaking boundaries, The Taste of Grande Provence wine and canape pairing offers new insights into how to match food with wine. The traditional approach of red meat/red wine, white meat/white wine etc now has new ideas brought to bear on the outcome – for example weight, texture or umami (Japanese for savoury).

We hope you saved room because the last stop on the decadent foodie tour is to Maison where they celebrate the essence of good living! The premium tasting sees Shiraz paired with their own biltong and blue cheese, and the Maison Cape Ruby port with dark chocolate and hazelnut truffles, all handmade by chef Arno Janse van Rensburg.

A leisurely lunch can be enjoyed at either Grande Provence or Maison’s The Kitchen Restaurant.
