Explore the most famous catacombs of Rome on a 3-hour tour of the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian. Discover the caves and tunnels that were used for Christian worship and burial. After introductions, head to the Catacombs of St. Sebastian on the outskirts of Rome. There, you will get a unique look at the caves, tunnels and mines where pagans and Christians worshiped and were buried as well during the early days of Christianity. The guide will show you were, according to legend, the bodies of the apostles Peter and Paul were kept during the persecutions. This would be inside the Basilica of St. Sebastian, rebuilt in the first half of the 4th century, rich decorations were discovered, including a floor completely covered with tombs.

Descend the Basilica using a stairway that leads to the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian, the 1st official underground burial site for early Christians, including many 2nd and 3rd century martyrs. Excavations revealed 5 different levels of loculi - niches where the bodies were wrapped in sheets and placed in tiers. Next, travel along the famous Appian Way, Europe's 1st superhighway! Built in 312 BC, it connected Rome with Capua, running in a straight line for much of the way. Marvel at the grand scale of Aqueduct Park (Parco degli Acquedotti) in the Appian Way Regional Park, where 7 ancient Roman aqueducts tower to heights of up to 27 and 28 meters (88-92 feet), before returning to the center of Rome for your drop off.
