You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train towards KM104. Once you get there, you will have time to prepare for the trek and to have a light snack. Your trek starts from here (at an altitude of 2100m, 6900 feet), where you will trek uphill for approximately 4 hours to WiñayWayna (2700m, 8850feet). From here, you will be able to admire impressive agricultural terraces, which overlook the Urubamba River. Enjoy a delicious box lunch at WiñayWayna and then make your way to the Sun Gate ‘IntiPunku’ (2730m, 8792feet). Here, you get a breathtaking view overlooking Machu Picchu, ‘The Lost City of the Incas’ and the beautiful surrounding mountains, including Wayna Picchu. You will then be taken on a first walk through the ruins of Machu Picchu, allowing you to spend time exploring the historical site. Your day ends with a transfer to the town of Aguas Calientes where you will have a delicious local dinner at a quality restaurant and spend the night at a 3-star hotel.
Day 2 : Machu Picchu and Train to Cusco (B)
This day begins with pickup from your hotel in Aguas Calientes to then be transferred to the ruins for your private tour of Machu Picchu, ‘The Lost City of the Incas.’ Learn all about this spectacular sacred Inca site. Visit the truly remarkable Temples of the Sun and the Condor and see the aqueducts and houses, as your guide shares some interesting facts about the Inca Sacred Terraces. After your private guided tour, you will have plenty of time to explore the site on your own. You may want to take part in one of the many short trek options, such as a the one to the Incan Bridge, a secret entrance for the Incan Army. Once you feel fulfilled exploring this wonderful place, you will return back to Aguas Calientes to catch your train back to Cusco. Upon arrival into Cusco, you will be transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle.
