This private full-day tour will allow you to discover and explore Petropolis, the Imperial City of Rio de Janeiro State. History fills the air as you see antique houses with European architecture, the cathedral, the former casino hotel, the charming streets, and a reformed local brewery. It´s a time-travel to Rio de Janeiro´s imperial time.The tour begins with a morning pickup from your hotel or cruise ship. Hit the road for about an hour drive to Petropolis. Once you are out of the city, the drive is through the Serra dos Órgãos National Park with its beautiful views.Stop for some amazing pictures.
As you enter Petropolis, the first attraction is the Quitandinha Palace, a former casino hotel with a beautiful garden and luxurious interior. After the visit, the tour continues to the Imperial Museum, where you will have the opportunity to see over 100,000 items from the Brazil´s imperial times. The driver will drop you off at the museum´s entrance and will be waiting for you at the same point after you finish your visit.
At this point, the tour changes to a walking one. The driver will guide you, on foot, to the Metropolitan Cathedral, a very beautiful and important place, where the remains of one of Brazil´s emperors are buried. From there, walk down charming streets with beautiful antique houses until you arrive at a restaurant for lunch.
After lunch, you will visit Santos Dumont´s house. He was an important inventor known, among other things, for the early zeppelins with gasoline engines and one of the first flights in an airplane. After the visit, you will walk to get the car and head to the Bohemia local brewery. The driver will be waiting as you do the inside tour. There is a good shop in case you want to try or buy local beers. You can relax there for a while.
In late afternoon, you will make the return hour trip back to your hotel or cruise ship.
