A Private Surf Lesson means that your lesson will not have participants from other Surf lessons in it. It’s just you, or your family, or your friends in your own setting with your own instructors. Private lessons guarantee a 2 to 1 maximum student to instructor ratio. No other surf school offers this level of safety and personal attention.
A Private Surf Lesson features 2 hours of NSSIA Certified Surf Instruction. Course includes etiquette, water safety, board safety, basics of paddling, basics of riding plus at least an hour and a half of wave catching and riding.

A Private Surf Lesson features 2 hours of NSSIA Certified Surf Instruction. Course includes etiquette, water safety, board safety, basics of paddling, basics of riding plus at least an hour and a half of wave catching and riding.A private surf lesson meets at this centrally located shop in Nags Head. You can park in our parking lot and leave your keys behind the counter with a staff member so you know your belongings are safe. After meeting your surf instructor(s), he or she will help you sign in for your class and get suited up in a wetsuit (if necessary). After suiting up, your instructor will select the proper surfboards for you, your friends and your family that is in your private class with you. Afterwards, you will all head across the Beach road to the beach in Nags Head.
Once on the beach, your instructor will give you an overview of the lesson. He or she will lead you through the surf school's "Practice Safe Surf" safety protocols, help you loosen up with some stretching exercises, and give an on beach demonstration of proper paddling and standing up techniques. After the demonstration, it will be your turn to demonstrate your paddling and popping up skills for the instructor, who will offer tips and pointers to help you through the process. At this point, it time to head into the water!
As soon as you hit the water, your instructor will help you onto your board and get you started paddling. After paddling out into the "line up", the instructor will help each person individually catch their own waves. The process includes helping the student identify good waves, when to start paddling for a wave, the proper way to line up the wave, and of course, when to pop up once the student has caught the wave. And if you need a little help getting back out, your instructor will be right there for you so you can catch another wave!
Over all, you get about an hour and a half of surfing, and then a couple of lifetime's worth of great memories!
