Firstly, before you join this experience, it's recommended that you to consider the following information:
• Distance: 12.16 Km.
• Altitude min/max: 1202 m / 1701 m.
• Unevenness: 735 m.
• Grade difficulty: moderate.
• Time: 5 hours 30 minutes (including stops).
Are you ready? Great! After an hour by car from Barcelona, you will arrive at the starting point, in Santa Fe del Montseny. Here you will leave the car and begin the ascent to el Turó de l'home, following different paths full of tree beeches, spruces, passing by springs... The landscape that this natural park offers is quite spectacular throughout the whole year.
Located 60 kilometers to the North of Barcelona, the Montseny was declared a natural park in 1978, and later, was declared Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1987.
You will visit three different geographical areas: Turó de l'home at 1703 m, les Agudes 1701 m and Matagalls at 1697 m.
The variations in humidity and temperature of the different environments make it a natural area with an extraordinarily rich vegetation. In the lower parts you can find the best examples of Mediterranean vegetation, in the middle rainy mountain, you will see oaks and evergreen oaks, and above 1000 m you can find beech and fir trees. On the summit, you find shrubs and meadows fields.
On the other hand, this region plays host a large number of species: the fauna typical of Central Europe inhabits the highlands of the mountain, while in the lowlands the prevalent species are those typical of most southern Mediterranean environments. Beyond the ecological and environmental aspects, the Montseny is a massif of great historical and cultural value. Human activity has played an important role in shaping the landscape with megalithic constructions, Roman villas and fortified farmhouses. Its extraordinary biodiversity and the cultural footprint that the human activity has left over time have a universal value that has inspired artists, intellectuals and scientists, perfectly reflecting the emotions of the people who visits this magnificent place.
