Following a morning pickup from your Florence hotel, travel south with your private driver into the Tuscan countryside to the small, medieval hamlet of Passignano sul Trasimeno in neighboring Umbria. Explore the city’s imposing walls and fortress, and take in panoramic views of the beautiful Lake Trasimeno.

Head onward through the rolling countryside to the hill on which the town of Perugua sits and discover evidence of the town’s 8th-century Etruscan origins. Widely considered one of Italy’s most significant centers of art, Perugia was once home to High Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino, and Raphael himself even worked here in the 16th century. Wander the streets at your leisure and see highlights such as Palazzo dei Priori, the elegant Fontana Maggiore and the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.

Explore the lowlands beneath Mt Subasio, where Saint Francis of Assisi lived, worked and died. Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli close to where, according to legend, Saint Frances first found his vocation.

After lunch (own expense), delve into the heart of ancient Assisi and meet your expert guide before embarking on a 2-hour private tour. Discover top city highlights such as the Basilica of Santa Chiara, the imposing 1st-century Roman Temple of Minerva and the spectacular 17th-century Chiesa Nuova — built on the presumed birthplace of St Francis himself.

Discover the Monte Frumentario — where the city’s poorest farmers sowed wheat and barley in the 14th century — and finish your tour with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritagelisted Basilica of St Francis, built in white stone from the nearby Mt Subasio. Inside, admire beautifully preserved ancient frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue.

At the end of your time in Assisi, hop back into your private vehicle for the return journey to your Florence hotel, where your tour will come to an end.
