After pickup at your Porto hotel, meet your guide for the day and let them know if you have any particular preferences; they can tailor the experience to meet your needs.

Begin with a scenic drive through the city and along the coast, passing by Matosinhos, a seaside city famed for its fresh seafood. Next, head towards Vila Nova de Gaia, a city on the banks of the Douro River. Vila Nova de Gaia is the main production center for Porto’s most well-known export: port wine.

Step aboard a rabelo (if option selected), a traditional wooden cargo boat, for a 1-hour cruise down the peaceful Duoro River. Count the bridges as you glide along. Porto boasts six bridges, the most famous being the metal Ponte de Dom Luís I, which was the longest single-span bridge in the world when it was built back in 1886.

Back on dry land, call into one of the port wine cellars and take part in a port tasting. Discover the difference between the white, ruby and tawny styles. After, you might wish to take suggestions from your guide for lunch (own expense).

Travel back to Porto city center for more sightseeing. Ascend to the top of Clérigos Tower for panoramic views of the city, then head to the Livraria Lello bookshop to admire its curved Art Nouveau staircase and vivid stained-glass skylight.

Next, choose to see the 12th-century Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) before popping into the São Bento Train Station, which is outfitted with gorgeous Portuguese tiles. Later, explore Ribeira, the historical heart of old Porto.

Come late afternoon, travel back to your Porto hotel, where your tour concludes.
