Pope Francis proclaimed the Jubilee Year of Mercy starting from December the 8th. This tour will allow you to get to learn more about the True meaning of this event through the visit of the major and more representative sites of Rome! From the Birth of the Lord to HIS resurrection and glory! We will lead you in hand through the magnificent Basilicas of Rome, not as on an ordinary "Christian Tour" of Rome, but presenting you all the hidden secrets and treasures of these sites which are linked to the meaning of such an extraordinary Event: The Jubilee Year of Mercy 2015/2016.The journey begins with the birth of Christ. In the morning you will have an in-depth visit of the Patriarchal Basilica of St. Mary Major, the first church in Rome dedicated to the Virgin Mary and custodian to planks of wood believed to be part of the Holy Crib of the birth of Jesus. In the chapel of Pope Paul V Borghese you will see the image of the blessed Mary and Child attributed to the Evangelist St. Luke as well as the final resting place of Pope Paul V and much more.
At this point we begin with the atonement of our sins by Jesus with a visit to the Basilica of Saint Praxedis, an ancient titular church near St. Mary Major that houses a segment of the alleged pillar upon which Jesus was flogged and tortured before his crucifixion.
We will then proceed to the Basilica of The Holy Cross in Jerusalem where St. Helen, mother of the Emperor Constantine the Great, brought soil from Jerusalem so that the church could be built on Jerusalem. This holy site jealously guards the relics of the passion of Jesus brought back to Rome by St. Helen that include a small piece of the Holy Cross, a Nail, the description plaque and thorns from the Crown as well as doubting Tomas’s finger (the finger of St. Thomas the Apostle that all speak of the cost sustained by Jesus for our forgiveness and freedom.
We will then continue to the Holy Steps, a Passionist monastery, that is home to the marble steps to the palace of Pontius Pilate also brought back to Rome by St. Helen that Jesus walked up to reach the same Emperor to be interviewed and later judged.
Time for a break Cost of lunch is not included in the cost of the tour.
The Resurrection and Triumph of Jesus. Rome’s Cathedral. Originally built under the first Christian Emperor, Constantine the Great, the Papal Arc-Basilica of St. John in the Latheran is considered the MOTHER of all Churches. As the Cathedral of Rome is home of the “Cathedra” of its Bishop, Pope Francis. Starting from Sunday December 13th you will be able (if you wish) to cross the threshold of the Holy Door to obtain the Plenary Indulgence of the JUBILEE Year of Mercy!
Basilica of St Paul Outside the Wall. Other amazing Basilica. A visit of this kind is not complete without "saluting" the Basilica dedicated to one of the major Christian Characters, Saint Paul. Saint Paul, Apostol to the gentiles.
