On this tour you will visit wineries which will give you a good overview on wine-making scene of Šumadija, from the newly established Despotika winery growing few indigenous Serbian vine sorts, over to the old Royal wine cellar with historical exhibition, through the eminent Aleksandrović winery and to the young and promising Arsenijević wine cellar. Our first wine stop is the village of Vlaški Do and Despotika winery, a newly established winery with ambitious plans and an enthusiastic owner. Despotika has several wine labels made from different kinds of grapes, but one is unique – Morava, indigenous Serbian grape variety. Only few winemakers in Serbia grow Morava, so you’ll have a unique opportunity to try this white wine. Of course we won’t stop only with Morava, there are many Despotika’s wines to taste.

From Vlaški village, we move on to the capital of the Šumadija wine region, to Topola, where Karađorđević Royal family nurtured their vineyards and where they created the famous Trijumf wine. Royal wine cellars nowadays are publicly owned and they grow grapes on 11 hectares only, compared to 50 hectares from the period of the kingdom. The highlight of the Royal winery is the original king’s wine cellar which is in excellent condition, so you’ll have the opportunity to see how the king made his wine some 85 year ago. The biggest treasure of the Royal cellar is the old archive where they keep wines from the 1930s.

Next stop is one of the most prominent Serbian wineries from 1990s onwards, Aleksandrović winery. This is a modern, yet very traditional establishment which produces only high quality wines. An interesting story is connected to their early days, namely the old king’s winemaker, who emigrated to Canada when WWII started, had the recipe for making the famous Trijumf (Triumph) wine, so when he heard that Aleksandrović was renewing his family vineyards and starting a new winery, he sent the recipe for Trijumf wine to him, in order to continue with the tradition of Trijumf wine production, which was discontinued with communist regime taking over the Royal wine cellar. Nowadays Aleksandrović produces many different wines, but they are best known for their Trijumf range, including sparkling wines.

And finally the most promising young Šumadija winemaker expects us at the end of the tour. Arsenijević wine cellar is a young winery, but the owner and winemaker Nemanja is a great young man with great enthusiasm, vision and will to improve the position of Šumadijan wine on the wine map of Europe. At the moment Arsenijević offers only three wine labels, but all of them are superb, which you’ll have the opportunity to experience on your own.

From Arsenijević wine cellar we move on to lunch to nearby restaurant in Topola or to family owned restaurant specialized in venison, to sum up the day and wine experience we got on the way.
