Once arrived in Volendam you can pick up your vouchers at the office of the ‘Volendam – Marken Express to start your day out in ‘Old Holland’.

Volendam is a small fishing village with a harbour full of old sailing vessels and rows of brick houses which are great examples of 17th century Dutch architecture. Being a typical fishing village with traditional houses and cottages, costumes and folklore, tourists have been beating a path here since as early as 1875.
At the Volendam museum you will learn everything about this famous little village and bring a visit to the walk-in picture-theatre and cigar bands-house with mosaics and decorations of 11 million cigar-bands.
Visit the dike where you will find the Cheese Factory. At the Cheese Factory you will be given an explanation/demonstration about the cheese making process and afterwards you will have the opportunity to try the different kinds of cheese.
Behind the dike nestles the "Doolhof" or labyrinth, which really is an accurate description of the random way in which the buildings and streets have been laid out.
At the dike you can enjoy a portion of Dutch 'poffertjes' (tiny pancakes)

Be welcomed on board the Marken Express to visit the former Island Marken. Marken has a population of less than 2000, and traditional architecture abounds. Tiny paths run through the village and over canals on drawbridges. A small number of cafes have outdoor seating overlooking the small harbour, and after a stroll through town, they’re the perfect place for a restorative drink while you wait for the ferry to take you back to Volendam.
At Marken you can have lunch at a restaurant with sea view at the harbour.
Do visit the Wooden Shoe factory whilst at Marken. The Factory is located just a five minutes’ walk from the harbour. At the Wooden Shoe Factory you will see a local traditional clog maker, who will give you an enthusiastic demonstration of how a simple block of wood can be transformed into a wooden shoe in minutes.
At the Wooden Shoe factory you even can take a picture of yourself in traditional Marken costume.
At the end of the day you can take the ferry back to Volendam or you can take the bus (public transport) to Amsterdam.

Since this is a ‘do it yourself tour’ you can plan your own timing & pace but do know that most shops and museums are open as from 09.00 – 18.00 hours.
