Combine a visit to ancient Olympia with a stroll to the modern city of Pirgos. The tour begins from the busy cruise port of Katakolon and the first stop is the world-famous ancient Olympia. Visit the archaeological site and see the Temple of Zeus, the hippodrome and the stadium, where the Olympic Games were held. Afterwards, you will be driven to Pirgos, stroll the neoclassical historic center of the city, the Agora, and do your shopping to the multiple stores of the commercial center.Upon your arrival at the cruise port of Katakolon, you will be met by your guide and vehicle (carrying a sign with your name on) right at the cruise exit. You will depart for the tour within 30 minutes after the disembarkation. Enjoy a scenic drive along the coast of Peloponnese and through the villages. You will arrive in Olympia after 40 minutes’ drive (28 miles approximately) and the driver will stop at the parking. You will have about 2 hours’ time to explore Olympia. You will walk with your guide a short distance to the archaeological site.

After issuing your tickets, you will walk through the ruins and admire the Temple of Zeus, the gymnasium, the hippodrome and the stadium. Continue your tour and walk a short distance in order to visit the world famous Archeological Museum of Olympia where you can admire, amongst many priceless exhibits, the marble statues of the Temple of Zeus and the unique statue of Hermes, carved by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles. Afterwards, you will return to the vehicle and head to Pirgos City. The distance is 17.8 miles and 25 minutes’ drive. Pyrgos was founded in the 17th century and remains the commercial and administrative center of the prefecture.

You can still see interesting sights like old neoclassical buildings and churches. The central square built in front of St Nicholas’ church (1906) is one of the largest and most attractive in Greece. The municipal market and Apollo theatre are the landmarks of Pyrgos. Both of these neoclassical buildings were designed by the famous Bavarian architect Ernest Ziller. You will have about 1 ½  hour at your disposal to explore the city and then return to Katakolon ( 15 minutes’ drive) .(Timings will be adjusted according the departure of the cruise ship).
