Politics are a sensitive subject — which is why we’re taking it easy on this bike tour that pedals through Venezuela’s turbulent political past. With two wheels to guide you, you’ll meet Chavez and Bolivar and learn about local Caracas culture.There are few things that define Venezuela as deeply as its politics. Dictatorships, democracy, and a Bolivarian Revolution — every political period in Venezuela has left its mark on Caracas.
We’ll ride along city cycle paths to reach la Plaza Los Museos, our most important cultural hub, and Avenue Bolívar, where every Venezuelan government has left its mark on the city. We’ll stop for a snack break in Parque El Calvario, one of the city’s oldest and most beautiful parks.
Among the many stories you’ll hear is that of 23 de Enero, one the biggest and most important favelas in Caracas. This is where former president Hugo Chavez’s mausoleum, El Cuartel de la Montaña, is located — and yes, we’re going to go see it.
We’ll head to El Cuartel, cycling through the favela and learning about the local community. At El Cuartel, we’ll take in beautiful views of the city and learn more about the Bolivarian Revolution’s leader, how he rose to power, and what he did over the 13 years as Venezuela’s president. From there we’ll head back down to the historical center to meet Simón Bolívar, “El Libertador,” and sip some coffee with him in spirit.
We’ll finish off riding along the cycle path back to Plaza Venezuela, where we’ll end our political pedaling adventure.
