Experience Santiago's vibrant street food scene, including the popular and well-known Mercado Central (Central Market), on this food-filled walking tour! Discover the city’s everyday customs through the meals, recipes and products that make Chile a worthwhile foodie destination. You’ll receive four to five tastings of Chilean specialties such as a meat casserole and a cool peach drink, plus enjoy a glass of wine. More than just a culinary tour, this is an excellent way to experience the local culture of Santiago. It’s a must-do!

Tour is limited to 12 people, ensuring a small-group atmosphere with a knowledgeable guide. Meet your guide at the Plaza de Armas and check out the Pedro de Valdivia statue – a figure of the first royal governor of Chile on a horse – before heading off on your walking tour of Santiago’s vibrant food scene.

With your knowledgeable guide leading the way, walk north, heading toward Mercado Central. You’ll walk about 8 to 10 blocks in total, stopping at different restaurants to try a variety of local food. Specific dishes vary, but expect to sample home-style cuisine like porotos granados (a bean and corn dish), pastel de choclo (a typically meaty casserole), a refreshing mote con huesillo (a cool, sweet drink made from wheat and peaches) and a terremoto (translates to ‘earthquake,’ but in this instance, it’s a unique Chilean drink made of ice cream mixed with white wine and fernet). You’ll also receive one glass of wine.

Eventually you’ll reach Mercado Central, named the fifth-best food market in the world by National Geographic in 2012. Your tour ends here, where you’ll wrap up your food adventure with a seafood empanada. With your guide, admire the market’s classic wrought-iron architecture – which dates back to 1872 – and browse the many stalls, most of which sell a variety of seafood.
