Start your tour exploring the avant-garde building and get close to Lanzarote’s most famous artist on this tour to the Teguise Market and the César Manrique Foundation and visit the icon’s former home. Designed by the artist himself and now a museum and gallery, complete with artworks by Picasso, Miró and Manrique himself. Then head on to visit the lively town of Teguise to browse the Sunday market, the largest in the Canaries and filled with colorful stalls.

Start your experience with a pickup from meeting points in Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca. Then, board your air-conditioned coach and travel inland to the César Manrique Foundation, the former home of the 20th-century artist who inspired much of the island’s low-rise architecture, sculptures and other artistic features.

Explore the avant-garde building independently and see how it’s built into a cluster of volcanic rock bubbles. Roam the cacti-dotted gardens and marvel at the five interior rooms, each encased by a volcanic bubble and all decorated with palms, fountains and pools. Then, head upstairs to the art galleries to view Manrique’s private collection of works by greats such as Picasso and Miró.

Then you will head to Teguise, the pretty, old-world town that was Lanzarote’s capital until 1852. As you travel, learn about Teguise’s history and how this sleepy place takes on a new persona on Sundays when its weekly market — the largest in the Canaries — fills its cobbled streets with a multitude of stalls, artisans and  street artists.

On arrival, enjoy the market as you wish. Soak up the carnival-like vibe and trawl through the stalls to browse everything from handmade crafts, pottery and embroidery to aloe products and tempting local delicacies such as wine, cheese and tapas.

Pause now and then to enjoy the live music, Canarian folk dances and other street entertainments, and drop by at the pop-up museums, bars and cafes that open in the traditional houses just for market time. After about two hours of browsing and shopping, return to your coach and end your trip.

Please note: You can also choose to visit only the César Manrique Foundation (please see pricing options for details).
