Peking or Beijing opera is an exotic show that encompasses detailed gestures, impressively made costumes and various forms of martial art, depicting historical stores and figures. We have created an excursion which unveils the hidden meanings of this form of Chinese theater by attending one of these elaborate shows. This form of opera is one of the major categories in Chinese opera: a traditional Chinese art form that blends legend with music, drama, singing, martial arts, acrobatics and acting into an exciting performance style. Designed both to entertain and enlighten, the lively and informative exhibitions and activities offer a kaleidoscopic array of cultural and educational experiences for incentive groups.

Founded in the 18th century during the Qing Dynasty, this form of opera was a very popular and highly valued means of entertainment in the courts. The movements, song, dance, display of art and the inclusion of elaborately decorated costumes developed over the years into the art as it exists right now. With a variety of roles and dedicated performers, each tasked with the part of showing their individual skills of story-telling, scenes depict stories of ancient Chinese times, folkloric tales in combination with well-choreographed musical support.

Music always has taken a very important place in this form of opera: synchronizing the music with the performance, each story and each work of opera – there are more than 1400 pieces of opera up-to-date – will give the audience an even deeper and more complete understanding of the story line. All that, and conversations between the performers on stage, completes an evening that one may not forget.
