Explore Vegueta, Las Palmas’ charming Old Town, on a 1-hour walking tour with tapas included! With a friendly local guide, work your way around the historical center’s cobbled streets and learn all about the town’s maritime history and links to seafaring explorers such as Sir Christopher Columbus. See landmarks such as the Catedral de Santa Ana and the Museum of Sacred Art, and then finish with three plates of Canarian tapas, a drink and a shot of honey rum inside one of Vegueta’s restaurants.Meet your guide in central Las Palmas, and then walk to Vegueta, the city’s atmospheric Old Town. On foot, head out to explore the charming cobbled streets of the historical center, an area that was once the stomping ground of seafarers and adventurers, such as Christopher Columbus.

Learn about the maritime town in its 15th-century heyday when Vegueta was considered as an ideal stop-off point to break up Atlantic voyages. The enigmatic Columbus made three significant visits to Vegueta and the much-revered explorer’s legacy is apparent around town.

Besides the area’s maritime history, Vegueta boasts architectural delights galore and your guide will introduce you to its highlights. Stroll through Plaza de Santa Ana to see the Gothic Catedral de Santa Ana, and visit Plaza de San Antonio Abad, a street where the first conquest of the Canary Islands is said to have taken place.

Amble along the area’s so-called ‘balconies street’ where some of the town’s earliest houses still sit with their picturesque Spanish-style balconies, and enjoy a photo stop by the fountain at Plaza del Pilar Nuevo. Other cultural sights that are seen on your tour include the Museum of Sacred Art and Casa de Colón — the museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus. Entrance isn't included, but your guide will explain about their collections from outside each building.

From Casa de Colón, walk with your guide to one of Vegueta’s traditional restaurants to enjoy three plates of the local tapas. The small plates of Canarian snacks that are served vary each time, but typically you can expect dishes such as papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes with salt and mojos sauce), local cheese and pata de cerdo (succulent roast pork with a crispy skin). Wash down the tasty morsels with a drink of your choice, and then finish with a shot of the local honey rum.

You can either finish your tour inside the tapas bar, where you can stay and enjoy more food and drink at your own expense, or return to the original meeting point.
