At the sight the guide will talk about the Viking age and the Vikings with a focus on the assembly sites and their role in the Viking society. You will also hear about other aspects of the Viking age.

Enjoy a small group excursion tour away from Stockholm to an assembly site from the Viking age. At these historic places, the aristocracy made decisions and settled disputes. Arkils assembly site is very well-preserved and close to Stockholm, easily accessible by public transport. At the sight the guide will talk about the Viking age and the Vikings with a focus on the assembly sites and their role in the Viking society. You will also hear about other aspects of the Viking age.Once at the meeting point (Ryttarvägen Bus station), you will take a short walk (approx. 10 minutes) with the guides to Arkils thingstead. You can travel easily from T-Centralen, Stockholms Östra station or Danderyds sjukhus. Information on how to arrive at meeting point will be provided on the voucher.
You will then learn all about Viking thingsteads and the role they played in society. You will also focus a lot on Viking culture and the social norms that ruled the society and its individuals. Arkils is a perfect example for Viking thingsteads because it is well-preserved and well-marked by two runstones - a significance of which you will find out during the tour. At the runes stones you will also hear about the runes, their origin and how they were used.
You will then return to the point of departure/meeting.
