Discover Volcanoes National Park on this private and personal tour. There are no "mixed" groups on this tour allowing you to see what you want to see and do. You will be able to discover some amazing sights inside the park that the tour buses don't visit. On the drive back to Hilo there are many options to stop along the way. This private tour begins at the pickup location of your choice in the Hilo area including the Hilo Port, hotels and the Hilo Airport. From Hilo, the drive to Volcanoes National Park takes about 45 minutes, ascending to 4,000 feet above sea level. Once inside the park, you'll make your way to see the amazing Kilauea Caldera with the smoking lava lake. After spending as much time as you like you will then experience the steam vents that allows you to feel the extreme heat coming out of the ground. Kilauea Iki overlook is the next stop where you will see evidence of the massive 1959 event. The views are simply amazing. About a minute down the road is where you'll begin a 15 minute walk thru a rainforest into Thurston Lava Tube, which was formed hundreds of years ago. Afterwards, 10 minutes down the road is where its recommend totake a leisurely 15 minute walk down Devastation Trail being witness to the absolute destructive power of Kilauea Iki.

Afterwards, the fun part begins! Chain of Craters Road goes 20 miles all the way down to the ocean taking you through lush forest openings up to the destructive lava flows, back to forest, lava flows, etc. Several stops are made along the way to explore past lava flows, which requires walking over actual lava from 1969-1974.

Once finished at the park we will drive back towards Hilo with a stop at an orchid garden (time permitting), Rainbow Falls and a black sand beach.

Being on a private tour allows you to make additional stops or changes based on your interests and desires. This tour is totally flexible and can start as early as 4am, getting to Volcanoes National Park when it is still dark to see the glow from the lava lake and witness the amazing sunrise (weather permitting, of course).
