Tackle 11 class III-IV rapids in this 17 mile stretch of river and return home with many stories to tell. We offer both the hands on experience of a paddle boat and the comfort and security of an oar boat; whichever your personal adventure level prefers.Upon meeting at 7:00 a.m. at our office, you’ll board vehicles for the ride to the river “put in” for Westwater Canyon rafting. Our guides will give you a brief safety orientation and outfit you with a life vest and then you’re off on your rafting adventure. During the morning you’ll have opportunity to get in tune with the river and soak up the gorgeous wilderness known as Westwater Canyon. See how many blue herons or eagles you can spot. The first point of interest is Wild Horse Canyon, a precursor to Westwater’s best whitewater and home to legendary tales of miners, outlaws, and Native American Indians. Here we run smaller ‘warm-up’ rapids before pulling off the river for lunch and a more thorough whitewater rafting safety briefing.
The first rapid of Westwater Canyon is Little Dolores Rapid. We’ll plunge into the fast-moving waters that await us! You’ll hear more history and folklore as the raft speeds toward Marble Canyon Rapid, and then, hold on! The next succession of rapids flaunts names like Big Hummer, Funnel Falls, Surprise, Skull, and Sock It To Me. You’ll feel the punch of every one of them as your guides do their best to avoid the mysterious Magnetic Wall and Room of Doom! You’ll exit the whitewater adventure on rolling and rumbling Last Chance rapid. The trip ends in the rhythm of the river with plenty of time to talk to each other or pick the brain of your seasoned, naturalist guide. At day’s end, you will understand why we call this the best whitewater rafting adventure in Utah with more excitement and more of a backcountry wilderness experience than you can find anywhere in the American West! You’ll depart from Cisco where our shuttles wait to drive you back to Moab.
