Experience this unique and exhilarating hiking and climbing excursion to the summit of Whistler Peak.  “Via Ferrata” is Italian for “Iron Way,” and is an engineered vertical pathway with permanently fixed cables for protection and metal ladder rungs for easier movement over the rock. As one of the first Via Ferrata’s in Canada, Whistler provides exhilarating views and a vertical perspective you may not have thought possible!Meet at the Whistler Alpine Guides mountaintop office 15 minutes before your tour departure. The ride on the Whistler Gondola from the village takes approximately 30 minutes. At the office, you'll meet your guide, sign a waiver, and be outfitted with your climbing gear.

Next is a walk across either a snow slope or a boulder field (depending on the time of year and mountain conditions) as you approach the start of the climb. At the base of the climb, you will look up 260m to the summit of the Whistler peak. There will be a short break at Lunch Ledge with excellent photo opportunities and then onward and upward to the 2160m summit. At the summit, take some world-class photos, followed by a short descent back to the mountaintop office to conclude he tour.

This climb takes roughly 4 hours depending on conditions, number of climbers, and climbing efficiency. Please notify the office if your tour needs to end at a specific time so that your guides can make special arrangements.

Climbing a Via Ferrata does not require any special skills or prior experience. This thrilling activity is not reserved for seasoned mountain climbers – any reasonably fit hiker can do it! As with all activities in the beautiful Canadian Alpine, each day is subject to varying mountain conditions. Ask the staff what the mountain has in store for you and your visit!
