Discover Quinta de Santa Cristina, a family estate, located at 45 minutes from Porto, in the demarcated region of Vinho Verde. Taste the local gastronomy in a picnic, appreciating the landscape of vineyards and mountains.
You can choose a guided tour or a free walk tour that crosses the entire property: vineyards, orchards and forest. Then, you can relax in the vineyard, enjoying a regional picnic and a bottle of good wine with family or friends.
At the end, you can still visit the winery and taste other 3 wines.The Quinta de Santa Cristina, a secular family estate, is part of the Demarcated Region of Vinho Verde (in the northwest of Portugal), one of the largest and oldest demarcated regions in the world and where is produced a wine with unique characteristics.
It is located in Celorico de Basto, 45 minutes away from Porto or from Braga, by car, enjoying good access.
The visit begins with the explanation of the history of Vinho Verde and Quinta de Santa Cristina.
Then, you can choose between a guided tour through the surrounding vineyards to the winery, through the garden of camellias and the Santa Cristina chapel or a free walk tour through the signaled walking tour that crosses the entire property, including vineyards, orchards (apple trees, walnut trees, …) and forest (about 4km, difficulty level: easy).
At the end of walking tour or in the middle of it, you will have the opportunity to taste the local gastronomy in a regional picnic, enjoying the magnificent landscape of vineyards and mountains, in close contact to the nature. You can relax in the vineyard, tasting local gastronomy (sausages, cheeses, patties, cod fritters, grilled Alheira, cod salad, pork breaded, corn bread, jam and a traditional cake) and two Quinta Santa Cristina wines: white selection and rosé.
In the afternoon, you can visit the winery, built in 2012, discovering the secrets of vinho verde production. You will get to know the grape reception area, presses area, traditional stone tanks called “lagares”, where the red grapes are foot treading, vat and fermentation area, wine cellar of sparkling wine, ending in the bottling area.
Then, there is a visit to the wine shop and tasting room, where you will have the opportunity to taste other 3 wines: Loureiro-Alvarinho, Alvarinho-Trajadura and Alvarinho. The wine tasting will be complemented with a short explanation of the aromas and flavours of the tasted wines. This wine tasting, normally occurs on the terrace, overlooking the vineyard and the mountains of Marão and Alvão - a stunning view.
