Hike to the top of Yellow Rock in Southern Utah on this 7-hour day tour outside Kanab.  Experience stunning views of the Grand Staircase and Vermillion Cliffs from one of the highest vantage points in the region.  This is a challenging hike for the moderately fit person looking to explore the colorful canyon country of southern Utah. The slot canyons and rock formations of southern Utah comprise some of the most challenging and demanding terrain in North America. Painted rocks jut out of a broken landscape of ancient riverbeds, sheer cliffs, and bald sandstone domes of varying shades of red, orange and yellow. Scrub brush and desert plants cling to life across dry rock plateaus while lush cottonwoods provide shade from the sun along rare creeks and streams.  Much of the landscape was once part of an ancient sea floor millions of years ago, and while the imposing terrain appears nearly inaccessible at first, it provides rare opportunities to capture scenes of aching beauty and unique vistas for those willing to brave the steep slopes of the ancient rock formations.

Your hike up one of these formations, the Yellow Rock, starts at 8am in the morning before the sun rises too far in the sky.  From the trailhead, you'll head straight up the rocks, occasionally scrambling up slick rock and polished stone as you rise higher above the road and the views begin to take shape.  From the top of Yellow Rock, you'll be treated to some of the best views of the Grand Staircase-Escalante area.  There is no trail at the top, so you'll need to be cautious as you move from vantage point to vantage point trying to capture the incredible beauty of the painted desert landscape.

The entire experience, from start to end, takes 7-8 hours and requires you to be moderately fit complete the demanding hike.  Although your guide will provide you with water and recommendations throughout the day, it is also important to bring plenty of water and prepare appropriately during the summer months, as temperatures to venture above 100F.
